Brae Editions is an independent, small press publisher based in Orkney and Glasgow. We are committed to the gradual development of our list of titles, which will continue on the basis of in-house projects. Our website is also in a process of development: further items will be added in the coming months. Brae Editions has benefited from time to time from funding support, most recently from Creative Scotland.
The imprint began in Orkney in 2007, as a development from Porteous Brae Gallery, an exhibition space in Stromness. Porteous Brae Gallery ran in its original location for two summers. By 2009 it had moved elsewhere, and the imprint proper began. Further information about the gallery and its eventual transformation into a publishing enterprise will appear elsewhere.
A recent publishing success was with the collaboration, ‘Ecstatics: a language of birds’, by Laura Drever and Lesley Harrison. In 2012 this won the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award for pamphlet publishing in Scotland. Projects with Thomas A Clark and Laurie Clark in 2009, ‘Yellow and Blue’, and with Laura Watts, ‘Orkney Futures’ and ‘Data Stories’ (2009, 2013) have also been highlights.
Our forthcoming title is ‘[Cover]’ by Amy Todman, to be launched in Glasgow on 15 May 2014.
